I am a practicing massage therapist with over 35 years of experience.

I love to research information and write about it. I have written two best-selling textbooks - Massage Therapy: Principles and Practice & Mosby’s Guide to Pathology for Massage Therapists. I have also contributed works to other publications including Teaching Massage, Modalities for Massage and Bodywork, and Muscle and Bone Palpation Manual. Research that I have conducted has been published in peer reviewed journals such as the Online Journal for Distance Learning Administration.

I also like to teach. I teach regularly at the Louisiana Institute of Massage Therapy and travel the country conducting workshops for practicing therapists. I also post instructional videos on YouTube. My primary teaching goals are to help therapists increase their quality of client care and expand their therapeutic treatment options. Students have given me the nickname the “Yoda of Massage” because of my broad knowledge and teaching expertise. But it's more than that... I strive to create an educational environment of discovery and engagement.

I love learning and frequently find myself in classrooms as a student. I have a doctorate in education, a masters’ instructional technology, and a bachelors in education. I have studied abroad in countries such as England, Ireland, and Italy. I am currently working on a degree in Industrial and Organization Psychology.

I enjoyed being on the task force for the Massage Therapy Body of Knowledge. In fact, it was one of my peak experiences. Achieving Board Certification was another. And I got to be a featured massage historian with David Lauterstein and Benny Vaughn in the documentary, History of Massage Therapy in the United States. That was a blast!

I am a charter member of the Louisiana AMTA. In 1989, they honored me with Member of the Year and in 2003 with the Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2014, she received the first Lifetime achievement award for educational excellence given by the AMTA School Awards Committee.

I served on the advisory board for the American Pregnancy Massage Association and I am a current member of the Society for Oncology Massage.
